Answers to Your Burning Questions

Clinical herbalism is a system of healing that blends the centuries-old art of traditional plant knowledge with modern science to support well-being. Clinical herbalists recognize plants are catalysts for change and every person is physically, emotionally and energetically unique. Clinical herbalism is concerned with uncovering patterns of imbalances and harnessing the inherent intelligence of the body, mind, and spirit to move toward optimal health.  Clinical herbalists expertly match the best herbs to support the whole person and the health pattern of concern.

Clinical herbalism is NOT the practice of medicine. A question often asked is, “What herb is good for…?” or “What herb can I take in place of XYZ medication?” Typically the person asking is wanting to know how to treat a specific medical disease. Herbalism is not concerned with the diagnosis, treatment, cure, or prevention of disease. Clinical herbalist are neither qualified nor able to advise clients to discontinue or change doses of pharmaceutical medications. Those activities are appropriately within the domain of licensed medical practitioners (ie. MD, DO, NP, PA). Nurse Kruse encourages clients to seek medical care when appropriate and welcomes collaboration with all medical, mental health, behavioral health, complementary, and integrative practitioners on a client’s healthcare team. She supports the integration of complementary and integrative approaches into conventional healthcare to enable clients to benefit from the best of all interventions available. The Upstate has a growing network of excellent providers that Nurse Kruse may make referral recommendations with confidence.

Nursing education and practice is rooted in securing a safe and effective care environment, health promotion and maintenance, psychosocial integrity, and physiological integrity. Historical nursing texts document the incorporation of herbs into nursing care plans for at least the past 200 years. The nursing paradigm and theory uniquely overlap many aspects of clinical herbalism and are naturally complementary to one another. A Nurse-Herbalist combines the best of nursing and herbalism to skillfully integrate the clinical application of plants as a catalyst for change to provide human comfort.

Nursing and Clinical Herbalism both appreciate the influences that food habits, movement, social & emotional health, spiritual health, relationships, environment, stress and lifestyle choices have on overall wellness.

Package services are designed to cultivate a healing and therapeutic partnership. This takes time and more than one brief encounter to accomplish. At Bridgewalker Wellness, we give thoughtful consideration to your unique story. We strive to prepare you to be successful and achieve lasting results.

During your first appointment, we will review your completed health history, wellness inventory, lab work, and medications/herbs/supplements. Your initial 90-minute consultation allows for the space and time to gather all the relevant information to begin the formulation of your personalized care plan. It is your time to discuss your wellness concerns in more detail. We will work together to create initial steps that you feel confident will move you toward your goals.

After your initial visit, additional time will be spent researching and reviewing your information, priorities, and goals. The amount of time will vary depending on the complexity of your state of health and how long your health patterns have been present. About a week later, a fully developed care plan will be discussed during a wellness education session. We will review additional recommendations, answer questions, and refine your care plan.

A follow-up appointment is recommended 2-3 weeks after your initial consultation to evaluate your progress and change recommendations, if needed, based on your response.

Our value-added packages also include additional support by including a focused check-in assessment. This session may serve as a final evaluation of your progress and/or refinement of your care plan so that you have the tools needed to continue your wellness journey. Throughout the package term, you will have access to our secure client portal for messaging and phone support according to our communication policy.

Established clients have the option to purchase additional consultations or follow-up appointments after the conclusion of the purchased package term if needed.

The decision to start the journey toward meaningful health is a courageous one. It is our goal to make our services as affordable and accessible to as many people as possible. We are committed to supporting clients at the stage they are ready to begin. We offer the option to purchase an individual consultation that includes one follow-up appointment. Additional follow-up appointments may be purchased separately as needed.

All appointments are conducted by secure HIPAA compliant telehealth platform for convenient access and to expand the reach of available services. In-person consultations are not available at this time.

You can expect a professional, relaxed, and safe experience. Your care and comfort are important. The central focus is your unique experience. Lots of questions may be asked during the conversation for clarity. After meeting with you, Nurse Kruse will develop a personalized wellness care plan. The plan is tailored to your specific needs and may include food habit, lifestyle, herbal, nutritional supplement, or other complementary intervention recommendations. The development of your personalized care plan is a joint effort. You are the one doing the work after all!

At each appointment, you are encouraged to share your successes, frustrations, and breakthroughs. Any adjustments to herbal blends or other recommendations will be considered as needed.

The cost of herbs are NOT included in the consultation price.

Herbal blends are personalized for each client’s needs and budget constraints. Careful attention is placed on the right herb in the right form for the right person. The most common recommendations are likely to be in the form of dried herbs and/or alcohol-based extracts. The usual cost may range between $50 and $140 per month. We will make suggestions of where to purchase these items from reputable sources who have a history of making quality products. Keep in mind we are unable to guarantee pricing or availability of 3rd party sources.

It is important to know the goal is not to create a dependency on herbs. Herbs are not substitutes for healthy lifestyle choices. They are catalysts for change. The length of time herbs may be necessary to realize shifts in health patterns, largely depends on the amount of effort you put into working your program.

All potential clients are invited to a free 15-minute discovery call with Nurse Kruse. We will discuss your health concerns and expectations to determine if services are a good fit.
